Paul and Kris Shaffer

 

We are Shaffer’s Bulldogs.  We started our kennel in the 1980’s after we obtained a beautiful female that became the heart of the kennel.  She produced a total of 3 champions.  Over the 90s we bred and showed 6 champions and the July centerfold for the 1997 bulldog calendar.   We were in the show ring almost weekly and were active members of BCA, Division VIII and the South Florida Bulldog Club.   Paul was the President of the South Florida Bulldog Club and the Treasurer of Division VIII.  He also assisted the Fort Lauderdale Kennel Club in their weekly show handler/dog training, working with both dogs and handlers.   Paul also judged a number of Division Sweepstakes Shows.

 

In the late 1990’s work commitments and health issues took Paul out of the show ring, but we retained our love for bulldogs with 2 family members.  Our last one, Shaffer’s Major Leaguer, was never in the ring but was the family champion until 2007 when he passed away.

 

This year we made a decision to obtain a new show dog that we could campaign and maybe even attempt to handle in the ring.  We made contact with a number of old contacts which led us to breeders Julieth and Chris King of Pop-A-Top Bulldogs in Corpus Christi, Texas.  We were offered one of their young champions named The Warrior at JMG.  When we saw his picture we were sold.  He came to us in June of 2025 and his first shows for Shaffer’s Bulldogs came in July at Jupiter/Tequesta in Florida.  There he was handled by Jason Starr from Florida where he won two Best of Opposites and a Best of Breed and Group III over nationally ranked competition.
